Maimane: ANC continue to undermine democracy

The Democratic Alliance said the comments by the African National Congress’s National Executive Committee confirm the ANC deployed its Chairperson Baleka Mbete as Speaker to undermine the role of Parliament. 

This follows comments by the ANC’s Secretary General Gwede Mantashe that Parliament should protect Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa and President Jacob Zuma from embarrassment and humiliation in Parliament. 

DA Parliamentary Leader Mmusi Maimane said the ANC is undermining our system of democracy that ultimately the accountability of the executive now will seat back at Luthuli house whereas it always has rather than the people of this country.

“It shows that the ANC is departing quite significantly away from institutions that uphold our democracy.” Maimane added.
