Somerset Police arrested a 26-year-old suspect in Zwelihle in Hermanus on Thursday night for being in possession of 31 bags of abalone.

Police Spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said police received information of an Isuzu LDV travelling on the N2 with possible abalone in it.

Van Wyk said police noticed the vehicle on the N2 and a chase ensued between them. The vehicle was pulled over and the 26-year-old suspect was arrested.

“The abalone was worth R1 500 and the suspect is expected to appear in the Somerset Magistrate Court soon” Van Wyk added.
