The African Christian Democratic Party in the Western Cape said it is shocked at the report which revealed that rape allegedly committed by police was on the increase.

The Independent Police Investigations Directorate revealed that in the 2013/2014 financial year, 53 cases of rape were opened against police, and in the past financial year it increased to 66.

ADCP Provincial Leader Ferlon Christians said this is unacceptable.

“We are calling on perpetrators to be brought to book. If found guilty, hard sentences must be handed down, this will send a strong message to these police officers that they need to pay if they break the law.” Christians added.
