Four children aged between 4 and 7-years-old were on Wednesday found dead inside a freezer in Ermelo.

Police Spokesperson Selvy Mohlala said the freezer was left outside a room in a residential area and it was not working.

Mohlala said a post-mortem will be conducted to know the cause of death however it looks like the children could have suffocated inside the freezer.

He also said that It is alleged that they were playing after school and they found a refrigerator that was opened outside, after it has been cleaned. It’s also suspected that the children might have gone inside the fridge and automatically the door closed whereby they suffocated inside.

“Later on they were discovered in the evening and were taken to various hospitals however they were declared dead on our arrival. We have opened a case of inquest and we are investigating this matter.” Mohlala added.
