The Western Cape Cabinet this week granted approval for a further amendment to the Liquor Act of 2008.
Provincial MEC of Economic Opportunities
Alan Winde in a statement said he is confident that amendments proposed by the
bill will improve the department’s powers to regulate liquor trade and remove
the red tape blockages.
The departments Tammy Evans said two of the
important ones which have already been in the public domain set to be changed
are: the introduction of new grounds for the closure of licensed premises and
allowing liquor authority officials to be become peace officers, so that they
can increase the capacity to raid and issue fines.
Evans added that the other is the
withdrawal of the 150 provision that prohibits unlicensed persons from having
that amount of quantity of liquor in their possession without permission.
