Western Cape MEC of Community Safety Dan Plato has called for a whole of society approach to deal with gangs and drugs in the province.

MEC Plato in a statement said organised crime is no longer just affecting our youth as our youth are no so deeply involved.

Statistics revealed that the province accounted for more than 40% of the national drug related crime over the last six years, despite it decreasing to 33% in 2014.

Ministerial Spokesperson Ewald Botha said the department of community safety has varies plans and projects in place such as our partnerships with our FET colleges, religious fraternity, policing forums, neighbourhood watches and municipalities.

Botha said the Western Cape gang and drug problem is everyone’s responsibility to address it effectively.
