27 drivers arrested for drunk driving in the Western Cape

Western Cape Traffic Authorities conducted 24 roadblocks across the province over this past weekend. 

2 840 vehicles were stopped and checked and 1 714 motorists were tested for alcohol.

Africa also said the highest reading was recorded in the Knysna region a reading of 1.44 mg/1000 ml.

He emphasized that the total amount of fines that we issued was R333 300 and we also tested speed of 6 365 vehicles throughout the province and we prosecuted 512 drivers for exceeding the speed limit

At the end 27 drivers were arrested for drunk driving. 

Meanwhile during the road blocks over the weekend in the province one driver was arrested for reckless and negligent driving in the Knysna area. 

Seven deaths were recorded in the province over the weekend.

Provincial Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said we lost five pedestrians in motor vehicle accidents and in two different accidents in Khayelitsha, one passenger died in a motor vehicle accident and one died in Paarl, another passenger died in that accident which brings the total fatalities to stand on seven for the weekend.
