The African National Congress in the Western Cape says it is glad that all the high schools that were initially earmarked to be closed will remain open.

Former MEC of Education Donald Grant said the reasons for the school closures in 2012 were because of underperforming and decrease in pupil numbers.

ANC’s Marius Fransman also praised those who fought for the 17 schools not to be closed.

ANC’s Cobus Grobler said the travesty that the process wasn’t properly followed initially

Grobler said the ANC had to put pressure on the DA and MEC Donald Grant to conduct proper public participation and consult the parents as well as the teachers on the closure of the schools.

“The ANC will take this matter further and we now looking at our options Grobler added.
