The Cape Chamber of Commerce on Friday said the impact of load shedding has been gravely underestimated as many industries are suffering massive financial losses.

On Thursday, cabinet announced a turnaround strategy for Eskom, involving a war room, a five-point plan and the participation of the private sector.

Chairman of the Chamber’s Industrial focus portfolio committee Peter Haylett said we are in a crisis situation where industry simply cannot be without power.

Haylett added that production comes to a standstill and industry working on very tight time constraints and late delivery of an order, even by half an hour is costing between R500 000 and R1 000 000.
