Four killed, including child, in Free State truck collision

Four people, including a child, were killed during the early hours of this morning on the N1 south near Edenburg in the Free State when their vehicle collided head on with a truck.

ER24 Spokesperson Russel Meiring said four people, including a child, were killed during the early hours of this morning on the N1 south near Edenburg in the Free State when their vehicle collided head on with a truck.

Meiring said Emergency workers managed to free a woman, the only survivor from the light motor vehicle, with multiple injuries.

Meiring said a boy, believed to be four years old, was found approximately 20 meters away from the vehicle.

Meiring said it is believed he was flung from the vehicle during the collision.

Meiring said unfortunately he also sustained fatal injuries and there was nothing that paramedics could do for him.

Meiring said the driver of the truck was found on the scene and treated for shock. He did not sustain any physical injuries.

Meiring said the exact cause of the incident is not yet known.

“The incident was handed over to the local authorities for investigation Meiring added.
