The Congress of South African Trade Union in the Northern Cape it is shocked that HIV/Aids is the leading cause of death in the province.
Cosatu Provincial Secretary
Anele Gxoyiya said the department of health in the province needs to ensure
maximum rollout of ARV drugs.
Gxoyiya said Cosatu together
with Denosa and Nehawu will intensify awareness and prevention campaigns
throughout the province.
Gxoyiya said call goes to the
management of the Department of Health to ensure maximum utilisation of the
available resources for relevant programmes and ensure proper accounting
practices so that the allocated funds reach out to the intended recipients, the
patients.
Gxoyiya said they call on the
department to also resuscitate their programme of delivering food parcels to
poor HIV positive people to enable them to take their treatment on full
stomachs.
Gxoyiya said while they are
aware that this is the programme of the Department of Social Development we are
also conscious of the fact that DSD is not focused on HIV positive people and
they miss them at times.
“The DoH has to keep accurate
records of HIV positive people in order to monitor their progress Gxoyiya added.
