Two murder cases have been opened in KwaZulu Natal, this is after a police officer shot and killed a 4-year-old boy and injured two children aged 12 and 13-years-old in Melmoth.

Major Thulani Zwane said the boy is believed to be the officer’s son.

Zwane said the local police officers were called to attend to the scene and while they were busy taking down statements, it is alleged that the suspect came back and had an argument with the police officers attending to the scene.

"It is alleged that he further tried to shoot the police officers and the officer retaliated killing the suspect in the process” Zwane added.
