The National Sea Rescue Institute in Jeffrey’s Bay are continuing to search for a man who disappeared underwater after he was caught in strong rip currents.

NSRI Spokesperson Craig Lambinon said a surfer who saw what was happening tried to rescue him but was unable to do so.

Lambinon said despite an extensive search throughout the night no sign of the man has been found.

“He has been presumed to have drowned and the police dive unit have joined the NSRI Jeffrey’s Bay continuing with the search” Lambinon added.
