Southern Cape police are investigating the murder of a farmer who was attacked at Hartenbos on Wednesday and he was found dead in his bakkie.

Police Spokesperson Malcolm Pojie said the circumstances surrounding the death of 53-year-old Freddie Tolman are not known at this stage however police are investigating every possible lead.

Pojie said information at our disposal reveals that the deceased was ambushed on Wednesday morning.  The suspects barricaded the roads and when he refused to stop on his way to pick up his workers they opened fire on him.

"Later we discovered that he was hit in the upper body and he died as a result of the wound sustained.  However we will still conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death” Pojie added.
