Roads and houses in some parts of Cape Town have been damaged by flooding, the National Sea Rescue Institute said on Friday.
NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon said Rough sea conditions during
spring high tide in the early hours of this morning,caused some flood damage to
some roads and reportedly also to some houses.
Lambinon said a camping site at Silverstroomstrand also had
to be evacuated.
Lambinon said as well as this West Coast location, other
areas affected by the flooding included Melkbosstrand, Milnerton, Hout Bay,
Kleinbaai, part of Bloubergstrand, Derde Steen, Tweede Steen, Riebeekstrand and
parts of Baden Powell Drive - on the False Bay Coast.
Lambinon said certain roads in the areas have been closed
temporarily for mop-up operations.
Lambinon said Debris and sea sand washed onto the
road."
Lambinon said that bathers and boaters in Plettenberg Bay
and Cape Columbine should be on high alert as rough weather was expected.
Lambinon said that along the coast there would be high
tides in the early evening.
"Strong rip currents can be expected around the coast
Lambinon added.
