An accident late last night on the N4 in Middelburg left a women dead and three others injured.  This is after a petrol tanker truck collided with a Mercedes.

ER24 Spokesperson Werner Vermaak said when paramedics arrived on the scene they found the truck near the veld and the women was left trapped at the back of her vehicle.

Vermaak said paramedics found the women with fatal injuries and was declared dead on the scene.  Three others sustained multiple injuries and were transport to a nearby hospital. The driver of the truck was not injured.

Meanwhile in another incident an eight-year-old boy is in a critical condition following a near drowning incident at a resort near Bloemfontein.

It is believed that the boy went underwater in the swimming pool and was noticed by lifeguards who pulled him out from the water.

ER24 Spokesperson Werner Vermaak said when paramedics arrived on the scene they found the child being attended to by lifeguards and bystanders performing CPR.

Vermaak said it is unclear at this stage how long the child was under water. Paramedics continued the CPR and managed to get a pulse back, unfortunately he was still in a critical condition and was rushed to hospital where he is in ICU.
