The African National Congress in the Western Cape said it is not surprised by the announcement of the City of Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille to stand for leader of the Democratic Alliance in the province.

ANC’s Cobus Grobbler said the sudden withdrawal of the incumbent DA Leader Ivan Meyer for re-election is planned at the top level and he was forced to pull out of the race to make way for De Lille.

Grobbler says the DA under Patricia de Lille is in for rough ride.

She couldn’t properly handle the management of her party, finance and she had driven it to the ground in the end had to render it to the DA.

She will also do the same with the DA. She is forever busy with fights, she’s arrogant and she is going to carry that to the leadership of the DA Grobbler added.

Meanwhile Congress of South Africa Trade Unions said this is a real slap in the face of the old guard of the DA.

Cosatu Provincial Secretary Tony Ehrenreich said the reason for the Mayor to stand against the party’s member of the provincial legislature, Lennit Max and incumbent Leader Ivan Meyer is because she has become the poster child of the DA liberal agenda.

This clearly show that someone was just parachuted into the organisation a few years ago as now as in leadership because of the inability of the other leaders in the DA.

This has become a home now for ID to get some substance for the DA with really just develop their political identity as opposition to the ANC and not some fear strategy to expand the needs of the working class community Ehrenreich added.
