The Electoral Commission has welcomed the judgment regarding the application brought against it regarding the Tlokwe by-elections in 2013 which has been dismissed.

The IEC was taken to court by independent candidates claiming gross irregularities during the registration of the 2013 by-elections in Tlokwe in 2013.

IEC Vice Chairperson Terry Tselane said the ruling clears the way for the commission and all stakeholders to focus on working together to ensure the success of the upcoming municipal elections scheduled for 2016.

Tselane says “we are satisfied that this matter will be once and for all an impression that had been created by the electoral commission was partial and that it was doing things to rig the elections.

We are satisfied that the court has actually find in our favour, moving forward we will deal with all other issues that have been raised in the court to make sure that we refine and perfect our systems, Tselane added.
