The Western Cape Department of Social Development has launched an investigation after a 17-year-old teenager allegedly forced his 3-year-old sister to smoke marijuana.

The department was made aware of this incident after it was posted on social media.

MEC Albert Fritz said we had a couple of social workers who managed to trace the 17-year-old and the toddler, and we have also involved the South African Police Service for their assistance.

“What we will now do is to see how we can assist the 17-year-old because he is a youth offender. First a remedial assistance not only to rock up but to assist him and then secondly to remove the child into safe custody and see what we can do” Fritz added

The department will not do a thorough assessment of the family and then necessary action will be taken.
