A bus collision leaves two people dead and 65 injured

One person died and a total of 65 people were left injured when two buses collided into each on Jan Smuts Avenue in Saxonworld.

ER24 Spokesperson Russel Meiring said when paramedics arrived on the scene they found the two buses in the middle of the road blocking the traffic.

Meiring said on assessment paramedics discovered that one man had sustained fatal injuries in the accident, while 65 other people had sustained injuries ranging from minor to critical.

Paramedics had to use the Jaws of Life to try and extricate one of the drivers from the bus. It is believed a woman who was transported to hospital with critical injuries died on arrival.

The exact details to the cause of the accident will remain the subject of a police investigation.
