City of Cape Town condemns violence in Kalkfontein

The City of Cape Town has strongly condemned the violence which erupted in Kalkfontein over the weekend.

This as residents started erected structures on land and law-enforcement had to intervene. In a statement City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements Benedicta van Minnen said this behaviour will not be tolerated as it puts strain on the City’s law enforcement agencies and the South African police.

The City has already laid charges against what it labelled as political instigators of the recent illegal land invasions.

Minnen says this merely shows how the political instigators have actually no interest to the delivery of houses to the people of Cape Town but instead using this as a spring bush to their own political ambitions.

The City of Cape Town is currently perusing these matters and charges will be brought, Minnen added.
