A fire in Khayelitsha claims the lives of four children

A fire late last night in U-Section in Khayelitsha claimed the lives of four children and several people were left displaced.

City of Cape Town’s Theo Layne said four informal structures and two formal dwellings were destroyed by the fire.

Layne said 12 people were displaced and 4 fatalities were recorded, of which all 4 were children.

Layne said three of the children were girls and were aged between 18 months and 3 years old and the boy was aged 6 years old.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage and the incident was handed over to the South African Police Service for further investigation.
