The African National Congress in the Western Cape said the Democratic Alliance is refusing to engage with residents of Wynberg, concerning the proposed routes for phase two of MyCiti roll-out.

Construction for phase two is expected to commence within the next two months, with the two prioritised sites being Stock Road in Philippi and Strandfontein Road in Ottery.

ANC’s Cameron Dugmore has accused the DA of treating Wynberg residents with contempt. The City is insisting on using South Road which would tear up a number of communities, create division and a lot of stress amongst people even evicting some of the there.

Dugmore said we believe that the city owes that community a direct consultation, now they say that they must attend a Constantia meeting or they must go to Claremont meeting, whereas in fact this is the area, where most of the controversy arises because of the lack of consultation.

“From the ANC’s side we are saying the City must be prepared to face and engage the community of Wynebrg, South Road in particular and set up an inclusive task team to explore all possible alternatives” Dugmore added.
