Bus accident outside Stellenbosch leaves 31 children injured

31 children were injured this morning on the R44 near Wiesenhof, just outside Stellenbosch when the bus they were in overturned.

It is believed that the bus lost control due to the wet weather.

Western Cape EMS Spokesperson Robert Daniels said a 14-year-old boy was airlifted to Tygerberg Hospital in a critical condition, while 13 severely injured pupils are being taken to Paarl and Stellenbosch provincial hospitals.

Daniels said 17 children with minor injuries are being distributed to primary health care facilities in the immediate areas.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
