The Congress of South African
Trade Unions in Limpopo said it is fully behind the strike by the Communication
Workers Union members working for MTN in the province.
About 300 MTN workers are on
strike in KwaZulu-Natal as part of a nationwide dispute over wages and they have
given the mobile operator seven days to respond to their grievances.
Cosatu Provincial Secretary
Gerald Twala said amongst some of their demands is 16% bonuses, 10% wage
increases.
“That MTN should recognise CWU
as it has increased its membership in the sector and the fact that most of the employees
within MTN are casual workers or temporary employees, we are demanding that
they must be permanent and the company must do away with labour brokers,” Twala
added.
