The Department of Health has reaffirmed that there is no medication shortage in the country.

This follows allegations made by the Treatment Action Campaign last week that the whole country has been affected by a shortage of ARV or Tuberculosis medicine.

Ministerial Spokesperson Joe Maila said the only shortage that the country is experiencing is that of Abacavir used to treat children.

“We never had a problem of ARV’s in the country. In fact we have a 10% buffer stock plagued somewhere in Gauteng, In order to make sure that in the exempt, we have a problem of ARV’s, and then we would be able to use that kind of stock.  As of now we don’t have a problem of ARV’s in this country,” Maila added.
