Eskom will start implementing stage two load shedding as from four pm this afternoon.

The power utility said this is due to shortage of generating capacity as several of its units are out of service due to maintenance.

Load shedding is expected to end at ten this evening.

Eskom Spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe said there were some of the generators that were offline due to technical fault. Many of them are still offline right now and as result they don’t have enough generating capacity.

“In parts of the country we are also beginning to see people using electric heaters that is also bringing a lot of strain on the power system.

So we are having a double whammy of sort, where we are having an increasing demand but a sharp reduction, in terms of production, which is why we are having to implement stage two of load shedding.” Phasiwe added.
