Power utility Eskom has welcomed the return of about 5 000 workers at the Medupi power station on Monday.

8 000 workers embarked on a strike for about two months over bonuses of work completed on one of the units at the Medupi power station.

In a statement Eskom said the return of the workers paves a way for the recovery of lost production time.

Spokesperson Khulu Phaiswe said we are continuing with the processing of the other 3 000 workers who are remaining and those who are clear will be allowed in.

Phaiswe said the others who may have been found to have participated in the illegal strike action will be facing disciplinary action.

“From our side we are happy and also confident as a matter of fact yesterday some of the 3 000 workers tried to report for work but unfortunately we could not allow them in until the process has been finalised” Phaiswe added.
