School principals to be declared an essential service debate continues

The Democratic Alliance has described as unacceptable that Nedlac had strong-armed the Minister of Labour Mildred Oliphant, to drop her request for school principals to be declared an essential service.

The Constitution states a right to strike, which means if teaching is declared an essential service principals and teachers would not be allowed to strike.

DA MP of Labour Ian Ollis said we believe that the minister was going in the right direction. In fact we do need to limit the right to strike for school principals.

Ollis said we are calling on the minister to reinstate that proposal so that we can limit the right to strike for school principals, so that school children can be supervised properly during a strike that is called by teacher unions.
