Western Cape MEC of Transport and Public Works Donald Grant said the vicious attack on an on-duty provincial officer is unacceptable.

Traffic Inspector Natasha van Roon was attacked by two male assailants while her car was parked in the direction of Malmesbury.

It is believed that the armed suspects are believed to have approached her vehicle before proceeding to knock her against the window.

Ministerial Spokesperson Siphesihle Dube said one of the assailants opened fire on her, Inspector van Roon is wounded on her arm.

Dube said the suspects then fled the scene after having robbed her of her firearm and two fully loaded magazines.

Dube added that she was treated at Medi-clinic and she has since been discharged.

“Minister Grant strongly condemns these attacks on our law enforcement officers, he also then said we must all work together to send a very strong message to any of these criminals that we are against it.” Dube included.

Dube said we are working closely with the SAPS during the investigation to do all we can to ensure that these criminals are brought to justice.
