Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works has been engaging with the National Union of Mineworkers to try and avoid a march the union is planning.

The meeting which took place earlier this week was to discuss grievances and allegations relating to Good Hope Construction, who were awarded contracts for the construction of a number of schools by the Department.

Provincial Spokesperson for the department Al-Ameen Kafaar said to commit to investigate the allegations made against Good Hope construction by the NUM representatives, but at the same time we also need to give Good Hope construction an opportunity to respond to these allegations made by NUM.

Kafaar said afterwards we also commit ourselves to facilitate an engagement between NUM and Good Hope Construction to address the issues raised that were raised.

Kafaar added that, this process still needs to take place before we can embark on any further actions.
