The Western Cape first quarter
tourism arrival figures show an increase of 6% year on year and domestic arrivals
increased by 5%.
Western Cape MEC of Economic
Opportunities Alan Winde said through project Khulisa, tourism has been
identified as a priority sector for the next five years.
MEC Winde added that the
project which is currently worth R17 billion employs over 200 people on a
formal basis.
Ministerial Spokesperson
Bronwynne Jooste said overall over 2014 passenger numbers increased by 300 000
from the previous year.
“This is excellent news for
our local tourism sector, which you know is one of our fastest growing sectors
and we know that every ten tourist one job is created. So this is a great boost
for our economy and our people,” Jooste added.
