The Democratic Alliance said the ruling by the North Guateng High Court into the matter relating to Sundanese president Omar Al-Bashir, shows that government was simply in contempt of court.

Bashir is wanted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes in Darfur.

He violated an interim court order which instructed him to remain in South Africa after he left the African Union Summit unannounced. Government said in a statement that it will review the judgement by the North Guateng High Court.

DA’s James Selfe said they believe that the full bench, which consists of the Judge President, the Deputy Judge, the then Senior Judge were very authentic in the judgement which found that government was in contempt of court by lying President Al-Bashir to leave the country.

‘We fail to understand on what basis it is now going to appeal it we await the affidavit that they will file and we will be advise it accordingly.” Selfe added.
