The Democratic Alliance has welcomed the investigation by the Special Investigating Unit into the Eastern Cape department of education.

The investigation will look at serious maladministration, unlawful appropriation of public money or property and intentional or negligent loss of public money or damage to public property, within the department.

DA MP of Basic Education Annette Lovemore said the list of problems are extensive and is a reflection of a deep systemic failure in the department of education in the province.

Lovemore said we have long been calling on President Zuma to show support for minister Motshekga and of the children of the Eastern Cape by getting involved and ensuring that the department is working well.

”We welcome now the Presidents eventual finding an authority for an investigation into the department in the Eastern Cape to go ahead to ensure that all corrupt officials or municipal administrators corruption is uncovered and make sure all those that are guilty of maladministration are brought to book” Lovemore added.
