The Democratic Alliance wants Parliament to table the report on corruption in asylum system so that it can be addressed.

The DA says the report contains evidence of human rights abuses and rampant corruption at refugee reception centres.

DA MP of Home Affairs Haniff Hoosen said it appears that a large number of foreigners who are desperate to enter as refugees or asylum seekers say their human rights are being abused.

Hoosen added that they are being charged large sums of money simply to gain access to application processes to get to the front of the queue as well as officials of the home affairs who are demanding from them large sums of money to even consider their application.

“The DA has asked for the matter to be tabled urgently in Parliament for discussion and we would like the department to come before Parliament to explain why is that they have not dealt with this problem even though it’s been in the services for a long time” Hoosen said.
