Newborn baby found dead with umbilical cord in Retreat

Cape Town police have opened an inquest case for further investigation after the discovery of a newborn baby with an umbilical cord in Retreat.

The baby was found by an unidentified man behind a post office building in Seventh Avenue on Monday.

Captain FC van Wyk said our members went to the scene after being alerted of the incident and on arrival they found a body of a baby boy covered in a blanket.

Van Wyk said we have opened an inquest docket for further investigation and a post mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
