3 man airlifted to hospital after a factory explosion

Three man have been left critically injured on Tuesday after an explosion at a factory at the R59 and Boy Low Road intersection in Vereeniging.

ER24 spokesperson, Russel Meiring said, ER24 paramedics, along with other services, immediately responded to the scene.

On their arrival, paramedics found three patients lying outside some offices being tended to by first aiders.

On assessment, paramedics found that all three patients had sustained severe burn wounds to most of their bodies and were in a critical condition.

Meiring said treatment and advanced life support interventions were immediately performed on the patients to stabilise their vital signs.

He said, once treatment was complete, one of the patients was airlifted to Mediclinic Vereeniging while the second was airlifted by medical helicopter to a private hospital.

He said the third patient was transported by ambulance to Mediclinic Vereeniging for urgent treatment.


The cause of the explosion is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
