Congress of South African Trade Unions in Western Cape says, the Democratic Alliance and Premier Helen Zille are trying to evict the community of Vaaldraai at Elsenburg, to clear the Stellenbosch Precinct for future development.

Cosatu’s Tony Ehreinreich says, many of the community members have worked on the farm in the area and have rights of tenure.

He said Cosatu will support the community in realising their rights in continuing their tenure on the farm areas.

Ehreinreich has said Cosatu calls for the declaration of this area to be a community upgrading area including municipality as well as the different national and provincial departments of public works.

“That We stop evicting people as a way to gentrify many of the areas in Stellenbosch”,  Ehreinreich emphasised.
