Samwu prepares for court challenge against Rand Water Management

The South African Municipal Workers’ Union says it has noted the lies that are allegedly being spread by the Rand Water Management. Samwu said the lies deal with the 48 hour strike that the union had planned.

On Tuesday, the union received an interdict from Rand Water that is meant to halt the strike.

In a statement Samwu said that Rand Water claimed that the strike would not interrupt water supply but the interdict says otherwise. Communities in Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Free State, and the North West provinces are going to be affected by the strike.

Samwu spokesperson Chumani Gqeke said the intentions of the employer to take them to court for basic services is a sign of panic.

“Unfortunately we thought that instead of going to court to resolve our disputes, we will sit around the table however we are going to court to defend our rights to strike” Gqeke added.
