10 fishermen died and 3 remain missing

Ten fishermen have died and three remain missing after they abandoned a fishing trawler which was taking on water in rough seas on Sunday night.

NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon says on arrival on scene the search commenced for a 21 crew who have abandoned the ship.

Lambinon said during the search 9 survivors were recovered from the water, 9 bodies of the deceased fishermen were recovered from the water and a search continued for 3 missing fishermen.


During the evening one of the survivors succumbed to his injuries and also died on one of vessels that had picked him up, he concluded.
