Home Affairs Director General Mkuseli Apleni says the Smart ID card and passport system is still down at Home Affairs offices.

Cables were damaged due to power failures at the Department’s New Co-operation building where the system is located.

Systems that make use of the live capturing of Smart ID cards and as well as passport have been affected.

Apleni says services are still available in the offices except application for a smart card and a passport as well as to collect those documents.

He added that only in the offices which have got the modernised system. In the rest of the offices we are able to get those documents and as well as services for birth, death and marriage certificates in all the offices of Home Affairs.
