Two people were killed and another injured on the M1 highway under the Graystone Road Bridge in Johannesburg.

ER24 Spokesperson Russel Meiring explained when ER24 paramedics along with other services arrived on the scene they found both light motor vehicles in the fast lane of the highway with car parts spread across the scene.

It is understood that one vehicle rear-ended the other in the collision.

On assessment of the vehicle that was rear-ended, paramedics found that two men had sustained fatal injuries in the collision.

Both men lay trapped inside the vehicle.

A third man was found lying in the passenger seat of the light motor vehicle with moderate injuries.

Paramedics carefully extricated the patient from the vehicle and began their treatment.

Once treated, the patient was transported to Johannesburg General Hospital.

The driver of the second vehicle fortunately did not sustain any injuries.

Rescue services had to use the jaws-of-life to later remove the bodies.

Local authorities were on scene for further investigations, Meiring concluded.
