The Western Cape will become the first African city to host the World Opthalmology Congress.

It is the biggest conference to be hosted in the region and it set to take place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre in 2020.

Western Cape Minister of Economic Opportunities Alan Winde has called this a major win for business tourism in the province.

Western Cape Government Spokesperson Bronwynne Jooste says we actively pursued major international conferences throughout the year.

She says this conference will earn more than R200 million for the economy and attracts 15 000 delegates.

This is a major boost for jobs and growth in the Western Cape Tourism Sector, Jooste added.
