The Congress of the People says it is sympathetic to the difficulties of the university students facing steep fee increases next year.

COPE spokesperson Dennis Bloem says, the constitution guarantees everyone, students included, the right to protest peacefully.

“’We are of the opinion the minister of Higher Education Blade Nzimande must take responsibility of what is happening at the university.” Bloem said.

He also added young people who come from poor homes need the support of government and private institutions to realise their academic dreams.
