MEC Marias will learn surfing in bid raise awareness on water safety

The Western Cape MEC of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais, will launch the “Water Safety Awareness” initiative at Strandfontein Pavillion today.

Stacey McLean, spokesperson for MEC Marais explained that the MEC will be taught how to surf by Caleb Swanepoel and Nigel Savel, the founder of the 9Miles Project.

“MEC Marias will also engage with the youth in the area to raise awareness on water safety and decreasing the high number of drowning incidents in the Western Cape.” Mclean said.

The 9Miles Project is a youth and community development Non-Profit Organisation that uses surfing and swimming as a platform for transformation, focusing on vulnerable youth in Cape Town, Mclean concluded.
