Eskom CEO Brian Molefe has told Parliament that the utility does not expect to implement load shedding until April next year.

Molefe says Eskom will continue to supply electricity and to maintain its plants with minimal or no load shedding.

He says maintenance of Eskom’s ageing fleet of power stations will be stepped up during December, but lower demand over the holidays means power outages will be unlikely.

Khulu Phasiwe, Eskom spokesperson explained that Eskom has been doing maintenance without any load-shedding, and so far the last load-shedding was 87 days ago.

“The plan is to keep it that way.” Phasiwe said.

“If we don’t have any major breakdowns, we will not have load shedding till next year.” Phasiwe concluded.
