The presidency says the Independent Newspaper group has distorted what President Jacob Zuma said about racism over the weekend, with titles stating that Zuma said racism was not an issue in South Africa.

Spokesperson Bongani Majola says the problem that remains since 1994 is that individuals who still harbour feelings of racism and prejudice.

“We want to make it clear that the President stated clearly that South Africa had addressed its institutionalised racism since 1994”, said Bongani Majola.

Majola added, “He also emphasised that all should be done by everyone to eradicate racism in society, that there should be consequences for racism and acts of racism for any individual”.
