With similar social and responsive behaviour to humans, horses have been noted to be a hugely beneficial mechanism used in therapy sessions for individuals with a variety of emotional and mental health issues.

This is according to the Equinox Trust, an NGO that specialises in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy.

Nafisa Abdulla of Valkenberg Hospital in Cape Town says horses are able to accurately assess the state of being of an individual and communicate it non-verbally, which makes these animals make great companions for psychotherapy….

Nafisa Abdulla added that

It simply focuses on the emotional and mental health participants and it is an innovated method for addressing a wide range of emotional need in an individual”
