A fire in the Imizamo Yethu informal settlement in Hout Bay, Cape Town burnt a man "beyond recognition" and destroyed about 200 homes earlier on today.

The City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue spokesperson Theo Layne said the police had been called to the scene to identify the body because it was "burnt beyond recognition".

“The cause of the fire is at this stage undetermined with the SA Police Service coming in to investigate further.”

“Some residents have been left homeless and those affected will be housed in a nearby community hall at this time. Clean-up operations have also begun.”
It is the second time this month alone that a fire has ravaged the area.
