Traffic in the Western Cape over the past week-end

The Traffic Department released a statement about the status of our roads this past weekend. Western Cape Traffic Chief explained the number of fines, fatalities and arrests that took place.

He said…. ‘’We stopped 2636 vehicles and 1733 drivers were tested for alcohol. At the end of the day we arrested 31 drunken drivers’’. And the highest reading was recorded at the Mossel Bay area nearly 5 times over the limit’’.

‘’One driver was caught drinking and driving in the. Another speedster was arrested in the Vredenburg region for doing excessively high speed’’.   

‘’Then we also arrested 51 year old woman yesterday in Beaufort West for bribing a traffic officer, this lady was arrested for bribing and corruption in Beaufort West’’. Then a 40 year old man was also yesterday late arrested in for doing a 191km/h in a 120km Zone’’. 

‘’The highest speed recorded the Western Cape Province Region over the week-end, was a 180 km/hr in a 120 km/hr Zone in Brakenfell in the N1. And the N1 outside Beaufort West a 147 km/hr in a 100 km/hr’’.


He concluded by saying….’’Somerset West on the N2, a 103 in a 80 km/hr Zone. And in Beaufort West or in Vredenburg in the west Coast, a 180 km/h in a 60 km/h’’.
